I have just completed a coached Director Development programme with Julie Johnson. The programme covered personal and business success, and involved me completing relevant sections of a workbook and using toolkit exercises between coaching sessions.
Julie was very helpfull, and it was easy to take on board the content of the programme due to Julie putting things over to me in a way in which I could easily understand! In the past I have undertaken development courses where you’re lost before you really start because you can’t quite fully understand the materials or what’s being asked!
Julie explained everything on my level, to help me put it in the context of me and my job. She got to know me as a person, so that she could see what I wanted, and needed, to get out of the programme. We generally had telephone coaching sessions, but we also had a face to face meeting when I felt it necessary – and it was nice to actually meet!
All in all this was a very interesting and enjoyable programme, which I will definitely revisit. In addition I would certainly use Julie’s services again and would recommend her to any other manager or director wanting to “up their game” in life and at work.June Capstick, Age Concern
Hi Julie, Just a note to thank you so much for your Leadership Programme, the course gave sound practical advice that I found invaluable in coaching my team of self employed Kleeneze Distributors, which has led to a knock on effect to my increased turnover to £400,000 last month alone!
It also gave me some great ideas on how to present myself and my methods with confidence in my new Entrepreneurial Leadership Teaching practice, so much so the work is flooding in! I wanted to let you know that the program was of great assistance to me, and has contributed to the following:
- Receiving promotion to the next level last week
- Contributing to the running of my team
- Excellent feedback received from my current Manager as to the impact that I am having, not only on my team but on the sales consultants as a whole
The 2nd key – Integrity - was very useful. The content really got my brain thinking and made me more aware of how I can influence my team. Identifying my own strengths and weaknesses also gives me direction that I can improve in.
The 3rd – Vision and Motivation - also reiterates the importance of having and updating goals. This has definitely assisted me in planning my next promotion.Glenn Voysey, New Business Solutions Consultant, TRUenergy, Australia
I’ve just completed the first step in the “Unlock your Leadership Potential in 28 days” programme, and have found it very beneficial. The material and content is extremely professional and well presented and the programme structure is relevant to my needs.
I’ve found it beneficial and already feel more positive. It’s also allowed me to focus on my own development rather than concentrating on my team first, and pushed me to reflect (not something I do naturally!)CB, Development Manager, NHS, Newcastle, England
When I agreed to work with Julie my key development needs related to 'life/work balance', 'time management & prioritisation,' & linked to that, 'making decisions, saying no & delegation'.
Julie coached me on these issues & I now have a better balance between my home & work life; I am more assertive generally, which has enabled me to decide what I should be doing & allowed me to delegate effectively to managers & support staff.
I use my time at work more effectively by taking a more strategic view, ensuring mine & my staff's goals are in alignment with business goals & reviewing progress against goals on a more regular basis.
This has meant that I am better at holding myself & others to account, am able to focus on priorities & find it easier to make decisions.
PS Thank you Julie for making the course so enjoyableSteve Reed, Director, UTS Pearson, International Move Managers, Middlesbrough, UK
Earlier this year I received coaching from Julie on life/work balance & succession planning.
As a Managing Director my life seems to revolve around work, but lately I have started to think more of life outside work and life after work, whilst still trying to ensure the continued success of my business.
I found Julie’s sessions very thought provoking, making me view things from a different angle. I always had goals and actions to work towards between sessions. It was often hard to fit this work in on top of my normal daily work, but I found it most helpful in directing my thoughts with regards to succession planning.
Julie made me realise I had to be very clear on what I want for myself and the business in the future. She encouraged me to discuss this issue with my fellow directors & shareholders. This gave us a lot of food for thought.
My sessions with Julie have made me realise that effective succession planning is going to take longer than I had first anticipated, as I will need to have robust systems and processes in place to fully support it.
However, thanks to my sessions with Julie I have improved my life/work balance by ensuring that I get away from it all for a long weekend each month, and so far the company has not ground to a halt without me! I am planning a summer holiday and feel that thanks to Julie’s help and advice I am making good progress with my exit strategy & succession planning.
I would definitely work with Julie again.David Morris, Managing Director, R W Building Ltd, Northumberland, UK
I have recently undergone a Leadership Development Programme with Julie Johnson. I found the coaching format of this program ideal for the development I desperately needed.
The end results were greater self belief and a defined management direction along with new ideas, arising from the thought provoking manner in which Julie carried out her coaching.
The positive reaction I have received from my management team to the ideas I have implemented has proved to me how invaluable the programme was; and I intend to work with Julie again in the future.GG, General Manager, Teesside, UK

Julie's coaching sessions helped me a great deal. At the time they started I had no real direction of where I wanted to be and I had no clear goals to achieve. From a personal point of few this had probably started the previous year, which won’t go down as one of my better years on the planet! This was mainly down to some very large projects at work which were not going particularly well (as I felt I had no support from some very important corners within the company); I also had a few personal issues at the start of the year which didn’t really help matters. This combination of issues meant my focus went completely.
Julie's coaching provided me (for want of a better phrase) with “another set of ears” which were impartial to the arguments/discussions I had been dealing with on a day to day basis over the previous 12 months. I probably already knew many of the answers but I needed some “help” to get them to the surface and Julie provided this help within our coaching sessions.
Now I have a much clearer view of what I want to achieve both on a personal and professional level. Some of my goals will be quite difficult to achieve but none the less they are still goals which I didn’t have, and I can now see some light in the tunnel thanks to Julie, whereas before it was pitch black.R. I have worked with Julie over the past 5 years in my capacity as owner of a training and consultancy business in North East England. She has a background (and qualifications) in HR, Management, Training and Coaching, and has been working with me to develop managers and team leaders via coaching (1 to 1) and group workshops.
Julie is also experienced in NVQ assessment and internal quality assurance as well as accredited leadership and management programmes, and acts on a consultancy basis liaising with ‘The institute of Leadership and Management’ and ‘The Open University Validation Service’ to ensure my organisation upholds professional standards in all its accredited programmes.
Julie’s main strength is her approachability – she is able to build trusting relationships quickly and work effectively with leaders at all levels in the business. Her approach is one of treating clients as equals, of identifying blocks to progress, holding them to account but also motivating and supporting them to take action and succeed. She models good leadership behaviour herself in that she plans her work based on expected outcomes, discusses and agrees ground-rules, reviews progress with clients and myself on a regular basis, is self motivated, self disciplined and accountable for her actions; and she is lovely!
Clients ready and willing to move forward in their roles and careers find Julie to be a good motivator who can help them focus on what’s important and make necessary changes.Keith Bell, KB Associates, Durham, UK

I worked with Julie at a time of great change in my life and work. The strength of her approach is her unfailing positive outlook and ability to motivate others to take charge of an initiate changes. Coaching is an invisible service, which I might never have considered using had I not read about the process working for other people. Experiencing the process for myself was invaluable. The encouragement and focus which Julie was able to give me has helped me to make significant improvements to my life generally and more specifically to my work situation. I now find I coach myself and imagine what Julie would say, so not only has she coached me , she has given me the skills to help myself, truly a gift for life.
